Christmas in Weimar is a magical time for adults and children alike. Enjoy the Christmas bustle and romantic
atmosphere of Weimar’s Christmas market open from November 27 to December 22, 2010.

The tradition of publicly displaying Christmas trees began in Weimar almost two centuries ago. In the winter of 1815/1816, the court book seller Johann Wilhelm Cranach displayed the world’s first Christmas tree in public in front of his shop on Weimar’s marketplace for the children of the poor. Since then, the custom has spread to every corner of the world. Today, the Cranach Haus is open daily to the public, and during the Christmas season, there is always a Christmas tree in front of its door.
